Be Wary of Jerry:
I cannot believe he's gonna get away with this...again. Of course Jerry's goal is to make money, so let's try and guess what a "frugal" billionaire would do to try and salvage reputation and relevancy from this season:
-So it's a lost season, we all know that. But we've got to swing public opinion. How can we do that? Well, besides putting out an army of X users supporting me (Jerry), we need to give them hope for next year (that we might win 10 games again - as is the goal). So we'll sprinkle some news about keeping MM, focus on injuries, you know, the usual. Die-hard fans will Stan Jerry, plus whomever he hires as his online army; so realistic fans need to speak up. We have seen the Cowboys ceiling with Jerry. It wasn't in the 90's. That was before Jerry became Jerruh. Jimmy won him a couple super bowls, he got rid of Jimmy so no one could share the glory in the future.
Which is why he's keen to keep MM. Does he seem like a person who would question or push back against what he thought is a bad idea from Jerry? I don't think he does. That's why he's the perfect fit. Good credentials and deference. That's all Jerry needs. He's not building a cutting edge program...he's putting on a show. That's all it is. To those who say "He's a businessman, of course he wants to make money..." I agree. But that means that when making decisions, the first thing on his mind is not the state of the football program...it's the state of the business. And if you want an owner like that, you got it. And you've seen the best that it can get under Jerry. Even when we're stacked with talent, we never had the heart or preparation to be contenders. That's "culture." That's Jerryworld.
I'm encouraged by all the folks I see online acknowledging the shortcomings but still give nothing but support to the program. On the other hand, I feel angry that Jerry has been able to convince everyone that we've been even close to being contenders in the last 20 years. It's always been a mess. We look back at Romo and say "those were the days." But we were complaining back then, and it was deserved. We had pieces that other teams would kill for. And we failed at surrounding them with talent and a defense. That's how Jerry likes it. A free draft pick ends up being a star. Free money! Building a defense is expensive. I'm not talking about getting Albert Haynesworth, but if your team has stars at key positions, it's time to spend some money and make a run at the Super Bowl. But Jerry can make money without spending it on FA's, so....works for him, I'm sure. Some even speculated Jerry kept MM this year because he didn't want to have to pay the rest of his contract while also paying a new coach. It seems that a new scheme, basically new regime would do well with a new HC, unless you plan for that HC to be around a few years.
There's just so many examples of Jerry grappling for mediocrity while saving (? I'm not sure whose pockets the salaries come out of....) as much money as possible. We don't need to be great. We need to be relevant - That's his whole mission, whether he's aware of it or not. This organization lacks conviction. Its mission statement is business, not football. In closing, folks, be wary of the half-measures Jerry sells us. Or his minions. His goal is not improve the team, it's to improve the optics. Keep your eyes peeled.
